Overview #1: Lebron Has Equaled MJ’s Greatness.
The article “Lebron Has Equaled MJ’s Greatness” by Rick Morrissey of the Chicago Sun-Times persuades NBA fans that Lebron James has equaled Michael Jordan’s abilities and will soon surpass him. Morrissey’s viewpoint is that there is finally a player in the NBA that we can call “the next Michael Jordan”, and that player is Miami Heat forward Lebron “The King” James. No real conflicting evidence is found in the article. The author is using many of Jordan’s qualities and comparing them to several of Lebron’s in-game moments to exaggerate the fact that he believes that Lebron is now Jordan’s equal. In the article it says, “’I know I’m better than you, you know I’m better than you and together we’re going to show everyone why you don’t belong on the planet with me.’ We saw Michael Jordan with that look on his face so many times it was a wonder he didn’t market it, the way he marketed everything else. Had he, he’d be suing Lebron James for trademark infringement right now. A court of law would find James guilty of being Jordan’s equal.” In other words, the same intensity that everyone saw in the eyes of Michael Jordan when he played on a daily basis, Morrissey saw in Lebron’s eyes during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Heat and the Bulls. No conflicting evidence was stated in the piece, due to the fact that Morrissey does not want to draw attention to the opposite opinions of the matter. The author uses words like “determination, confidence” and “amusement” when they compare Lebron to Michael so that readers believe that Michael and Lebron are on the same level. The author uses logos when he tells about Lebron’s gameplay because that is a style of play Lebron has been using a lot more lately. This article looks somewhat reliable due to its limited advertisements and little to no errors. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/morrissey/5633807-452/lebron-james-has-equaled-mjs-greatness.html
Overview #2: Lebron James Is Better Than Michael Jordan.
In the article “Lebron James is better than Michael Jordan, Without the Ring”, Dr. Jason Johnson persuades Nba Fans that Lebron James is already better than Michael Jordan. The author uses the text structure compare and contrast to organize the writing by showing feats of Michael, and then comparing them to similar feats Lebron has accomplished. Dr. Johnson shows a strong viewpoint on the situation based on things he said like “LeBron has already matched Michael Jordan, so perhaps the debate shouldn’t be whether he is the next Michael or better than him, perhaps now it’s time to start discussing if we’ll ever see another player like LeBron James”. There is no referral to any experts mentioned on the matter, although this information may have been presented on nba.com. Conflicting evidence is stated throughout the writing, but the author is always making sure that anything Jordan did, looks like Lebron did better. No specific types of connotation were noticed in the writing. The author is using logos when he compares the changes that both Lebron and Jordan brought about in the NBA, allowing the assumption that since Jordan became known because of the changes he forced to be made, why can’t Lebron be able to top that if his gameplay has changed the game as well?
Overview #3: Michael Jordan is better than Lebron James
In the article "Is Lebron James Better Than Michael Jordan?", Robert Cenname persuades Nba fans that Michael Jordan is always/forever will be better than Lebron James. Robert uses the compare and contrast text structure to explain his viewpoint, which is that Michael and Lebrons feats don't even deserve comparison due to the fact that Lebron can not close out a game. Cenname shows a strong viewpoint by using words like "uncanny" and "nonetheless" when he begins his comparisons of Lebron and Michael to show how strong he favors one player over the other. No conflicting evidence is shown in the piece, mainly to exaggerate his point on the fact that he thinks Michael is better than Lebron. There is no referral to any experts quotes so I don't think this can be considered a ver reliable source of information.
